With the end of the year approaching, our band and strings ensembles gathered in the COLA to celebrate music in a fun and relaxed Christmas-themed extravaganza. Two of our Year 6 students, Darsh T. and Liam N., have written the following review:
The Band Gala Night is an annual event that was held on the 28th of November 2024 by the Normanhurst West P&C program. All of our 4 bands and ensembles, including Junior Band, Concert Band and Performance Band and the String Ensemble, showcased their amazing talent learnt during the year. Fortunately, the weather held off for the event, unlike the heavy downpour that occurred earlier in the morning. The night ran smoothly, and the outcome was fantastic.
The night was run by our fantastic band captains, Lennox and Charlie, our band conductor, Mr Odams, and our strings conductor, Mr Dylan. The first band to perform was the Junior Band, followed by the String Ensemble, Performance Band and Concert Band.
The Junior Band performed 5 pieces, the String Ensemble played 3 tunes, the Concert Band performed 4 pieces, and the Performance Band played another 4 tunes.
Each band had three band award recipients. In order to earn this award, the recipients have drastically improved their music playing ability, or have put a high amount of effort into the band. Congratulations to the award winners!
At the end of the event, the Concert Band and the String Ensemble joined together and played ‘You Belong with Me’ as one musical troupe. It worked out marvellously. What a spectacular way to end the breathtaking Band & Strings Gala Night!
Our band’s performance was stunning, and caught the attention of the large audience. All the performers went home wearing a smile on their faces. Special thanks to the Normanhurst West P&C for hosting this event, and our band and strings conductors for their great dedication in planning for this event. We look forward to seeing our amazing bands and ensembles showcase their expertise in music again next year!
