Student Injury Insurance

The NSW Federation of P&C’s arranges a series of group insurance policies which are available to government schools through the Federation.  A number of these policies are required, such as public liability insurance, whilst some are voluntary products recommended by the Federation.

The NSW Department of Education is insured to be able to meet the financial impact of any legal liabilities arising from its activities.  It does not, however, provide accident or medical insurance for students enrolled in government schools.

The Federation has arranged a group personal accident and sickness policy, Student Injury Insurance through St Andrews, underwritten by Accident & Health International Underwriting.  Each school is able to participate on a whole-school basis with the cost calculated on a set annual fee per student.  Parents are unable to insure children individually under this policy.

The policy covers a wide range of injuries and the permanent total loss of the use or function of certain body parts, as well as certain dental and non-Medicare medical expenses.

The policy cover is provided Australia-wide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and covers all P&C activities such as Band and OOSH programmes in addition to all school activities.

The NWPS P&C Committee has approved the cover.  The insurance policy is now in force, covering all children enrolled at NWPS, and has been paid for through P&C funds.  The policy remains in force until 1 February each year, at which time the P&C will renew the policy.  The cost is $4.00 per child for a school the size of NWPS.  The P&C is seeking a voluntary contribution from parents to cover the cost on a per child basis, and this amount has been included in the Term 1 invoice.

If you have any queries on the Student Injury Policy, or the process of making a claim under the policy, contact secretary@normanhurstwestpandc.com.au who will provide you with the required claim form which can be forwarded directly to the insurer (insurer’s details are at the bottom of the claim form) or alternatively to Ela@andrewsinsurance.com.au.
